Hello Bloggers!

As sad as it is to say, this is the last week of ADED 1P32, and I have completed so many things that have made me more technologically knowledgeable and more of a digital citizen. We were told to google ourselves as a final task. When I did this, I found my Facebook, twitter, and blog posts! I thought this was so cool as this is my digital footprint. The only major changes since the beginning of the course are my blog posts as I already had twitter and Facebook. I like that you can see my blog posts because they are everything that I have learned over the time of this course and I hope that they are useful to others who are either taking this course or just looking for additional information. A digital footprint is information on the web specifically about you and throughout this course, I have learned so much about building my positive digital footprint through different tools such as Pinterest and twitter. With Pinterest I know to post positive pictures or create boards based on my accomplishments and particular interests. With twitter I can use it to promote myself in my future career, or use it to follow other people in the same field as me to educate me more. I think that it is critical to have a positive digital footprint as that just helps with the idea of being a digital citizen. If you have a positive digital footprint, then you most likely follow the digital rights and responsibilities which lead you to become an appropriate digital citizen.
Kolodi, 2015

I have learned that digital citizenship is about the way that you use technology that really puts you in the category of being a digital citizen or not. You should always be thinking about the digital rights and responsibilities when using technology as they will ensure you of being a proper digital citizen. Being polite and using proper etiquette when collaborating and communicating with other online is very important.

As a digital citizen, I will hopefully continue to create blog posts and spread the web about how important it is to use technology appropriately. Before I joined this class, I had no idea about the digital rights and responsibilities, but learned a few of them through my years of school. For example, citing other people work. I did not know that this was a digital responsibility, but that it was just something you had to do because it is illegal to steal another person’s work. I think that the digital rights and responsibilities should be more enforced, especially now that technology is so popular in today’s society. Children and even adults should know all of the rights and responsibilities before using the internet. There are many websites that talk about the appropriate use of the internet that are great reads. I found a great website that is all about appropriate use of technology. It is called, Classroom tips: Appropriate use of Modern technology. I suggest you look at it because it is very interesting! As a digital citizen, I can only post things online through blog posts, twitter, and Facebook to enforce how important it is to use technology suitably.

Thanks for reading my final blog post! I really enjoyed this course and getting to share all of my knowledge with everyone!

Week 11-- Podcasts

Hello Bloggers!

Spring is here and that means that winter semester is coming to an end. This is the second last week of ADED and I am learning so many new tools within the digital world! This week we learned about podcasts and screencasts. What was really cool was that I was able to create my own podcast this week which is also on my blog so take a look at it! It was really exciting to me because I do not really enjoy speaking in front of large groups of people but to make a podcast that can be seen by anyone is huge and I really enjoyed making it! For those of you who do not know, a podcast is a digital recording of someone’s voice (yours, radio, broadcast) that is available for the world to see on the internet for others to download or listen to (EdTech, 2016). Podcasts can be be used for many things and by many people, especially educators! These are several educational purposes that podcasts are used for ( EdTech, 2016):

  • ·       Used to deliver research or lessons to students who need extended support
  • ·       Students can create them for their own learning experiences
  • ·       Teachers create podcasts on lessons for students to download and look at a later date
  • ·       Benefit auditory learners
  • ·       Creating a podcast can help students learn skills such as researching, writing, speaking effectively etc.

Minter, 2016
Creating a podcast is huge for becoming a digital citizen as it teaches the individual to become more involved with the technological world in ways that will benefit them. As for me, a podcast benefitted me by me discussing why technology is so important to our world and what it has to do with being a digital citizen. I had to speak clearly and appropriately which will help me in the future for job interviews.

We also researched about other creative tools such as Muziboo, SoundCloud, Garageband, Jing, and Screenr. Muziboo is an online music proposal that allows you to be apart of a class that understands your musical presence. SoundCloud (which is what I used to create my podcast) is an online audio platform that allows you to speak aloud about specific topics and then share them to the technological world! I thought it was very easy to use and a simple concept. Garageband is a music creation studio that is only available for mac users. It is more for creating music as it has software instruments like guitar and drums. Jing is a tool used for screencasting which takes a video or pictures and uploads it to the web. Lastly, we looked at Screenr which is a tool that you can use to capture any videos or audio recording on your computer! All of these tools built my knowledge as I can now create my own podcasts in the future about my career in Osteopathy and hopefully many people will listen and want to be my clients.

Lastly, when looking at my feedly reader, I found a great article about 28 Healthy Meals in a Jar For Those Times You’re on the Go. This is perfect as I am always looking for quick on the go meals that I can take with me to school or work.

Thanks for reading this week!

Creating my first Podcast

Hey guys!

As the second last week of ADED comes along, I learned how to use SoundCloud to create my own Podcast! This was really exciting as I have never created a podcast before and I was really excited to get right into it! I chose SoundCloud as I thought it was very easy to use. Surprisingly, it only took me one try to create my podcast. I definitely though it was going to take me more time to create the perfect one!

Using a podcast has contributed to my digital literacy as I must speak clearly and appropriately because my podcast can be seen by anyone on the internet. By appropriately, I mean using proper etiquette as you never know who could be listening in on your podcast. It has also created to my digital responsibility as it is my responsibility to only speak the truth about technology and being a digital citizen. I explained within the podcast that being a digital citizen is about not stealing others work, not cyberbullying, and being careful about what you post on the internet. Posting a podcast has definitely contributed to me being a digital citizen as I made sure that what I posted was appropriate and truthful.

Check out my podcast, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Anyway, if you are thinking about creating a podcast, I would definitely choose SoundCloud as it is a very simple layout and is very easy to use!
