Week 2-- PLE

A personal learning environment is a bunch of digital tools that an individual uses to support different types of learning styles, whether it be informal or formal. It is very important that everyone has a personal learning environment because it will only help the individual make connections throughout their life through these digital tools they use. As said from the slideshare, "A Bridge in the Cloud", the main functions of a personal learning environment are as follows, finding content, create content, reuse content, find people, connect, discuss, collaborate, and compete. On the other hand, a personal learning network is a network of connections that allow us to be linked to others and to have many foundations of ideas that help us work toward our goals.

When looking at my personal learning environment habits, in 5 years’ time, I hope to have a job that is in alignment with my future aspirations, which is a career in the healthcare field. By 27, I wish to be satisfied with my income, enough to cover the investment associated with buying a home. I also hope to be either married or engaged. Lastly, I hope to be content, and nevertheless happy with my life at that point in time. As I am still a student, many of these ambitions are not yet completed because I am still young, but I am working hard to get to those places. To reach these goals for my future, I have to learn certain skills and have knowledge on the subject that I want to become successful in. By using many web tools I will be able to accomplish these objectives. Using my phones calendar will help me with the skill of being organized, which many future businesses look for. I must be professional in all my social media and in the way I present. Using Prezi or PowerPoint will help keep me looking proficient in my work. Also, I must be collaborative, and doing so through email and many other social networks such as Facebook. Lastly, it is very important to be competent and doing so by setting alarms to be on time for work. My learning environment is quiet and comfortable, with no TV or electronics so I will not be distracted.  With this environment, my work gets done completely and efficiently.

Through completing week 2 and creating my PLE, I have learned many things that gave me new insight. When reading Social Technographics: Conversationalists get onto the ladder, by Josh Bernoff, I figured that I am a joiner on the latter. This means I take part of the 59% that maintain a profile on a social networking site. I found this interesting as I do want to become more involved with technology and become higher on the latter.

Using the word cloud, I learned how to represent my week 1 reflection blog post text visually. I have never heard of the web tool Wordle before and had no idea what it did. Now since I have knowledge on what to do with this web tool, I can use it for my future endeavors when I need to represent a text visually, whether it be in a presentation for work or for school.
