Week 3-- RSS Feeds

blogtips.org

Rowes (2010) states that RSS is a technology that is now being used by many people around the world to watch websites of interest to them. It is almost like a form of bookmarking your websites but it does more than just mark a website, it updates you on things that you are interested in. There are many problems with bookmarking, for example you are doing it on your own and you may or may not bookmark many websites of interest which could cause problems when you want to find something specific and there is a lot of information in front of you (Rowes, 2010).
Wagner (2007) and Educase (2007) have answers to many questions to ask oneself when starting their RSS feeder. Questions like, why do you need it? Who is doing it? How does it work? Is it significant? Are there downsides? An RSS is there to help save time to an individual who is looking up information on different things by sending updates to you (Wagner, 2007). RSS feeds consist of blogs, podcasts, wikis, flickr, google news, MSN search, etc. (Wagner, 2007). These are all different types of web tools to use on your RSS feed. RSS is becoming very popular by starting in schools and working its way to families and businesses. It works by subscribing different websites of interest to the feed on your RSS reader (Educause, 2007). It is very significant as it cleans and establishes an enormous amount of information on the internet (Educause, 2007). There are very few downsides to this such that the blogs you save to your feed have to be something that you can trust as well as you cannot subscribe ALL content from the internet. With very few downsides, it is still a great tool to use!

As it is a new year and everyone is making those New Year resolutions on getting fit and eating healthy, I am finding it appropriate to share with you a blog post about how to stay on track when starting a new diet or exercise program. How to Stay on Track is a great blog for those of you who have trouble keeping up with their resolutions of eating healthy and working out. This informed my own learning as I find it hard myself to stay on track when starting a new remedy on health and fitness.

RSS feeds are helping me build knowledge on digital literacy by teaching me how to use technology. Showing me the independence that everyone has while using the internet is teaching me digital responsibility. RSS feeds show me that digital citizenship is very important because technology is growing drastically and it is helping me focus on the positives that technology can offer me (Ribble, 2015).

RSS feeds follow more of an organizational tool as it categorizes all the websites that you are interested in and updates you day to day. I would place this in the organizing content part of PLE or the collaborating and socializing part of my PLE because when I read other people’s blogs I have the chance to comment and socialize with other people on the internet.
